Research packages

How far back in time would you like to go? According to your answer, you can choose between 3 packages of research: basic research, intermediate research, and advanced research.

The path starts with the basic research. By adding a new package, you can go further back in time and discover more about your family history.

Choose your package

Basic research

Reference period: late 18th, early 19th century

It’s the first level of genealogical research and can be carried out in all Italian regions. The basic research allows to go back in time till the early 1800s as the information comes from the Civil Status records of the Reign of Italy. In some cases civil status began in 1861 and in others, as in the case of the city of Rome (former Papal States), from 1871.

By collecting records of birth, marriage, death, and nationality, our team builds up the patrilineal or matrilineal relationships (with optional addition of collateral descendants). The basic research is only the first step towards uncovering your family roots. You can go further back by adding the intermediate and/or advanced package.

  • Basis of research: Stato civile italiano
  • Reference period: 1862 – Today
  • Duration: 15 days
  • Document with historical genealogical relationship of the family
  • All the documents of baptism, marriage and where necessary of death
  • Summary of a genealogical scheme
  • Any additional information found during the search will be returned

Intermediate research

Reference period: early or mid-18th century

In the early 1800s, the Civil status was established by the King of Naples, Gioacchino Murat. In 1815, under the reign of Ferdinando I, the Civil status officer began to register the baptismal and marriage records using the certificates written by the priests. Leveraging this archive, we can uncover your roots until 1700, sometimes even further back in time (late 1600’s).

The intermediate package is one of the most comprehensive types of research and can be added to the others. It can be applied to the lands that belonged to the former Kingdom of Two Sicilies (southern Italy, Sicily and Sardinia). The search can be expanded by consulting the ounce cadastre at the state archives. It allows us to trace ancestors and heads of families to extend the research up to 600.

  • Basis of research: Archivio di stato
  • Reference period: 1750 – Today
  • Duration: 30 days
  • Document with historical genealogical relationship of the family
  • All the documents of baptism, marriage and where necessary of death
  • Summary of a genealogical scheme
  • Any additional information found during the search will be returned

Advanced research

Reference period: 16th, 17th century

As a result of a fiscal reorganization throughout the Kingdom of Naples, in 1753 King Carlo VII decided to create the “Onciario Land Register”, the precursor of what we know nowadays. Within the register, we can find multitudes of useful information about the inhabitants of those lands.

Beyond their categories (e.g., citizens or foreigners, clerics or lays) and the description of properties, the Onciario land register contained the “Rivele”, the family members’ inventory, and “Stato delle Anime”, the records that the priests had to fill in regularly. The advanced research can be added to the others and can be applied to the lands that belonged to the former Kingdom of Two Sicilies (southern Italy, Sicily and Sardinia).

  • Basis of research: Archivio diocesano o parrocchiale
  • Reference period: 1532 – Today
  • Duration: 60 days
  • Document with historical genealogical relationship of the family
  • All the documents of baptism, marriage and where necessary of death
  • Summary of a genealogical scheme
  • Any additional information found during the search will be returned

Additional services

Beyond our packages, the Studio provides you with various additional services surrounding genealogical research. Discover more here below.

Dual nationality

According to “jus sanguinis”, you are allowed to require Italian nationality if you prove Italian descent. Once the proper documentation is ready, the request can be issued to the Italian Consulate.

Military archive

This research is useful for searching among military ancestors and war heroes between the ages of 17 and 18. You can uncover the serial number, the date of enlistment, the rank, the medals, the penalties imposed and any desertions.

Heraldic research

Heraldry is a discipline relating to the study & analysis (called blazon) of family coats of arms. The most important arms are stored in public or private archives. The heraldic research can be applied for all Italian territories.

Onciario land register

It’s the forerunner of the modern land register. It includes multitudes of records for your genealogical research, such as inhabitants’ categories and property information.

Notarial archive

In the 1200s the notarial acts began to be drawn up. This research implies a long and difficult study, but allows us to reach a period of time that is not traced by any other records. The Studio will collect all the documents authenticated by the notaries of the past.
