The family tree: a tool to get to know thyself …

You may have never thought about it, but rebuilding your family tree is a useful tool to get to know each other better and face life with more freedom.

Originally, the reconstruction of family genealogy was a practice in use in families of noble descent to remind others and themselves, the grandeur of the past and the “purity” of the lineage.

Nowadays it is increasingly rare for families to keep the history of the past and most people do not go beyond the memory of their great-grandparents, but it is a practice that is worth rediscovering.

If you reconstruct your family tree, in fact, you will discover very useful information to get to know thyself.

Latin phrase: “nosce te ipusum” or “know thyself” which translates the Greek γνῶϑι σεαυτόν, is one of the apoftegmas attributed to the Seven Wise Men, who, engraved on the pediment of the temple of Apollo in Delphi, exhorted men to recognize their condition and human limitation.

Socrates made it his favorite maxim, interpreting it as an invitation to consider the limits of human knowledge before proceeding on the path of knowledge and therefore of virtue. Here, thanks to the reconstruction of the family tree, it takes on even greater value, because we are the result of an atavistic and uninterrupted chain that connects us to our deepest being, with our self.

«Nobody exists alone, nobody lives alone. We are all what we are because others were what they were, ”said the Spanish director Julio Medem, whose latest film is called The Tree of Blood (2018).
