Genealogical research at Diocesan Archive in Veroli (FR)

Icona di Verificata con community

The Historical Archive of the Diocese of Frosinone-Veroli-Ferentino was established in 2010 by Msgr. Ambrogio Spreafico, who decreed its establishment in two sections that preserve the documentary heritage of the two former dioceses of Veroli and Ferentino, united in a single diocese in 1986.

The section of the Historical Archive of Ferentino preserves all the documentation of the former Diocese of Ferentino, documented starting from the fifth century. The documentary heritage of this section allows us to reconstruct the history of the diocese starting from the seventeenth century, as the archive was destroyed in the seventeenth century due to a fire. The section of Ferentino currently preserves about 20 archival collections, in addition to the diocesan, the capitular and some archives of the various parishes of the former diocese of Ferentino.

The section of the historical archive of Veroli preserves all the documentation of the former diocese of Veroli, which has its first bishop documented in 743. The archive of the former diocese of Veroli was formed at the end of the 16th century, like all archives Italian diocesan, following the institutional renewal promoted by the Council of Trent (1575).

In addition to the collection of the Diocese of Veroli and Veroli-Frosinone, the archive holds about 20 collections of parishes, chapters and brotherhoods. Originally kept in the episcopal palace of Veroli, in 2009 it was transferred to the episcopal seminary.
